Samba Basic
- Basic forward and back (American Caicho). The Samba Basic uses the standard ballroom hold in closed position.
- You can turn this pattern to the left.
- You can also do this pattern in apart position.
Whisks or Side Basic
- Balance Se Te (Balance to the side) Similar to side breaks to both sides. Reach behind. Don't turn your hips.
Box Step
Copa Cobana (Shorten to "Copa"):
- 1 basic → 1 balance se te → 5 copas (walk-toe-pull) → come out on 6 → basic.
- Free arm rounded forward.
- Joined arm hand on shoulder. Lady's arm on blade outside.
- Need contact along the arm so you can fold her in and do the basic.
- To end the Copa, the outside foot is the last toe pull, then turn into the basic. Be sure to lead the return to basic from copa early.
Two-way composo:
- Lead: The lead is to arch the body and lean the body.
- Count: and walk, and 2, and 3, and 4, and walk, and 2, and 3, and 4.
- Footwork (Man's): step forward flat 1 → right toe pull 2 → right toe pull 3 → right toe pull 4 → and step back flat 5, left toe pull 6, left toe pull 7, left toe pull 8.
- On each "toe pull" above, bring the feet together and click. Remember to move your down on each beat and up between each beat.

Addl. Samba patterns:
- Copa compaso: Start with bota fogo → one, stop check, back-and-1, and 2-and-3, and-4 → 2nd half of turning basic.
- Polista: On first step, guys step out to the right and move the lady to your left.Step on a line forward. Move her the opposite direction as you brace. Do 6 forward then return to the basic. Man's body should be arched in with his hips toward the lady. Turn the lady by turning your body.
- Double copa: 1 basic => 1 side of the balance se te > zig sag (man holds the lady's right hand with his left) => after turn, start second copa on the inside foot. (Inside foot is even numbers 2, 4, etc.)
- Whirlwind: Start like a double copa, then the guy will turn and change the hands. Exit with an inside underarm turn on the 5th samba step.

- Rumba turn-around. At end of pattern, do side-together and then turning box.

Nightclub Two-step-like Patterns:
- Left turn
- Left turn with underarm
- Right turn
- Right turn with underarm
Waltz-like Patterns:
- Bota Fogos (part weight) Similar to closed twinkle, except that you use the Flat toe-pull, Flat toe-pull footwork.
- Advanced Bota Fogo: Continuous closed twinkles → cross in front and turn 5 times → come out on 6.
- Volta Left: Similar to waltz turns line of dance. Cross feet when going forward into the turn but not when turning backward.
- Waltz 2-way turns
- Zig Zag Twinkle
- Same-hand crossover
- Espiral – Start similar to boto fogo.
